The two-time Masters champion, who at one point was ranked as high as No. 2 in the world, is said to be joining the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series.
After tying for 30th at the PGA Championship in late May, it was revealed that he had a torn meniscus and had been out since late May.
The Telegraph reported that the well-known left-handed and shot-shaper is set to play in the event outside Boston over Labor Day weekend. The tour will play its second U.S. based event at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey on Friday and Saturday.
In addition to winning the Masters in 2012 and '14 and the World Golf Championship in the same year, he has also won the Match Play Championship in the last two years. He's been a member of Team USA at the Presidents Cup twice.
The world's highest ranked person is now 86th in the world. His best finish on the tour this year is a T14 at the Waste Management. He and Harold Varner III finished T-4 at the tournament.
When he does play on the tour, he will be one of the captains of the four-man teams.
The four players who are in their 40s will join the one who is 37 years old at Bedminster. LIV, which is bankrolled by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, was stripped of its captaincy because of it.
