Jackson, Matt Holliday reflect on Jackson's journey to becoming the No. 1 pick (1:51)

Jackson and Matt are excited about Jackson being the top pick in the MLB draft. There is a time and a place for it.

Jackson wore a Baltimore Orioles jersey, jammed the team's cap over his long, sandy blond hair and grinned broadly as he was photographed.

Did he have reason to smile? The high schooler signed a contract with an $8.19 million signing bonus.

The son of a former All-Star is a slick-fielding middle infielder. He had only been to Camden Yards once before, when he shagged fly balls with his father while he was an outfielder.

It will be a long time before Jackson returns to the Orioles.

"I want to get up here as quickly as possible," he said. I would love to keep playing well. Two years is my goal. I think I can do it, even though it is a big goal.

He might have a chance if his genes count. Jackson can only benefit from Matt's experience and guidance, as he needed six years to make the jump to the big league after being drafted in the seventh round.

The separator is the little things that make up a baseball player. It takes a lot of work and sacrifice to get to where you want to be.

Scott Boras, the agent who negotiated the deal for Jackson, said that he has read all the books in the library.

As a senior at Stillwater High in Oklahoma, Jackson had 29 doubles, six triples and 17 home runs. He scored 74 runs and stole 30 bases.

The third top overall pick in Orioles history was convinced by all that. The pick had a slot value of over $8 million dollars.

This is an exciting and historic moment for the franchise and for Jackson. I couldn't be more positive about the partnership of Jackson and the Orioles.

After taking batting practice with the Orioles, he was ready to go to the team's training complex.

It's been a long time since I've been able to compete on the baseball field, so I'm very excited to get down there to Florida.

It's possible that one day Holliday will become the starting center fielder for the Baltimore Orioles. Cal Ripken Jr., who was drafted by the Orioles, made it all the way to the majors.

He played a position for so long that it's an honor to be a part of it. I hope that I can stay here for a long time.
