Image for article titled Samaritan's New Trailer Sets Stallone Up for Tragedy

The trailer for Samaritan has been released. It was delayed a number of years because of studio acquisitions. Samaritan is billed as a take on what happens to superheroes when they're past their prime, with a focus on the kind of anti-hero story like Will Smith's Hancock.

The trailer shows Mr. Smith working as a garbage man in the fictional Granite City, when a young boy thinks he may be the legendary Samaritan. The Samaritan was thought to have died in a battle with his opponent. There is a person called "nemesis." That is the name of his opponent. The rest of the trailer is heavy-handed, with Stallone running around, fighting bulky bad guys, and squaring off against Pilou Asbk. Samaritan looks missable, if not downright mediocre, because it lacks any truly interesting visuals or ideas presented in the trailer.

Superhero stories should be trying to push the envelope in order to make something new, or even just something fun to watch, but judging by this trailer, Samaritan looks to be doing neither of those things, presenting the same old, same old superhero just with a different name Samaritan will be released on Prime Video on August 26th.
