PUMA has tapped Japan's racing heritage and tuning scene for its latest CELL Endura drop, dubbed the " Mugen." It takes its name after the legendary high-performance tuner Mugen Motorsports, which has produced various coveted Honda's in its 46 years of work.
As a result, PUMA has covered the CELL Endura "Mugen" in graphics, just like a race car livery. In fact, the placement of the graphics are thought-out to be a true reflection of a race car, wearing Kanji graphics and the Endura stamp on its toe box, while the rear is left contrastingly clean with a simple embroidered PUMA logo and CELL stamp.
The limited-edition pair draws further inspiration from the motorsport industry with its use of leather, suede, quilting, and mesh, which references the seats in cars and on bikes. Graphics adorn the sneaker's entire upper, as does a faded black-to-red colorway which is inspired by the Infinite Racing Team and Tokyo, applied in a motion blur finish in homage to the fast-paced nature of racing.
Hits of brown leather contrast the shoe towards the rear, providing a more subtle nod to the interior of a racing car. Rounding off the sneaker is a clear bubble-cushioning unit in the midsole.
