5-Star Safety Caleb Downs Commits to Alabama Over Georgia, Ohio State, More

Alabama will get a commitment from a player in the class of 2023.

The recruit made his decision public.

Downs is a 5-star recruit and the 12th overall player in the class. The Georgia native received scholarship offers from a number of schools.

Downs has good size for the position, but it's his playmaking ability that makes him stand out.

Downs scored a touchdown as a quarterback, receiver, passer, and kick returner, as well as his two picks returned for a touchdown, during his junior year.

He made an impact in all three phases of high school, but he believes he can make bigger plays in the secondary. He will thrive against the pass if he uses his instincts as a run-stopper and his ball skills as a ball carrier.

If Gary Downs' son lives up to expectations, he will be able to play professional football.

Nick Saban and his staff are off to a good start in the recruiting game. Downs is the 15th commit to the Tide.

Alabama has been the best college program at developing talent. Some of the notable secondary players who have had successful NFL careers in the last few years are from Alabama.

Downs is going to join that group when he arrives on campus.
