It's the time of year when we come to rely on the staple of all fall wardrobe staples: the boot. And after an extra long sandal season, we can't think of anything more glorious than wearing fuzzy, upper-thigh grazing socks with some soft leather version of the cold-weather shoe.

This season's most eligible boot hails from the '90s and features a square toe, as opposed to a pointy or round one. We first spotted the shoe back in February, when a number of designers punctuated their autumn ranges with angular footwear. Proenza Schouler, for example, paired square-toe boots with its collection of shiny, leathery wares for a look that felt very of-the-moment and effortlessly cool. Rejina Pyo also showed the style, but tested the textured waters of snakeskin print.

Off the runway, brands like Miista, Paloma Wool, Wandler and Labucq have created their own iterations of the square-toe boot, leading us to believe that we should send last year's functional hiking boots to ThredUp to make money - and room in our closet - for this soon-to-be-everywhere shoe.
