There will be 48 players competing in 12 established team franchises for an unprecedented $400 million in purses when the LIV Golf League expands to 14 tournaments in the next five years.

There will be an increase of $150 million in purses for the next five years. The players are competing for $255 million.

The organization said in a news release that it is expected to expand its global footprint across North and Latin America, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Europe.

The best players in the game will always be able to make their own choices about where to play, according to LIV Golf.

"LIV Golf's expanding global platform will provide an opportunity for players and fans around the world to help maximize our beloved sport's true potential," CEO and commissioner Greg Norman said in a statement. The franchise model will bring new energy and excitement to fans from all corners of the world.

The new golf circuit is being funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and is said to be worth between 100 million and 200 million dollars. All but one of the athletes have signed multiyear contracts.

More than two dozen players have been suspended by the PGA Tour for competing in tournaments without conflicting event releases, and a few have resigned from the tour.

The Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey will be the site of the second event in the United States by LIV Golf. There are also events at The International in Boston and Rich Harvest farms in Chicago. The season finale will be held at Trump National Doral in Miami.

Individual play and four-man team competition will be included in the LIV Golf League events. The captain will be able to build their teams as they see fit in an effort to gain the greatest fan following and sponsor interest.

The LIV Golf International Series was launched this year through a $300 million investment in the Asian Tour. The international series would ensure pathways for amateurs and the next generation of leading players, with opportunities for promotions. At the end of the season, new players would be allowed to join the league.
