According to reports, Trump could launch his presidential campaign as early as September.

I've already made that decision, so there's nothing left to consider. In an interview with New York Magazine, Trump said that he had already made that decision. My big decision is whether I go before or after the midterms.

McCarthy is worried that an early Trump announcement could distract from the GOP's goal of winning back both chambers of congress.

Both McCarthy and Trump spoke on Tuesday at a Washington, D.C. based summit of the America First Policy Institute.

The speech was the first he's given in D.C. and began with gory descriptions of violent crime in the US.

House Republicans will lock in a conservative majority for the decade, McCarthy said in a conversation with Gingrich before Trump spoke.
