Graziano: Pickett winning starting job not out of question (0:49)

It's not out of the question for Kenny Pickett to win the starting quarterback job in the preseason, according to Dan. It was 0:49

Ben Roethlisberger's comments that too many current NFL players have a me-type attitude "rubbed me the wrong way," said the captain of the Pittsburgh Steeler.

In an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Roethlisberger said that the game has changed and that people have changed.

Roethlisberger said the team was so important in his first few seasons. The whole thing was about the team. This is about me, that and the other.

I might be standing on a soapbox a bit, but that's the biggest lesson I've learned. It went from being a team first to a me-type attitude. It wasn't easy. It's difficult for these young men. social media In college, they are treated well. This new NIL stuff is amazing. They're treated like royalty. College coaches need them to win so they coddle them at a young age. Terry didn't coddle me. Bill Cowher didn't either.

When the future Hall of Fame quarterback retired, Roethlisberger's teammate from the previous season was the current one, Heyward. In the most recent edition of his show, he said he disagreed with Roethlisberger's observation, which made him upset.

"I don't think that's the point, it looks as though we are looked at as selfish players, and I don't think that's the point," the veteran defensive linemen said. There are a lot of young players that come from different places and have different experiences. They are not more of a me-type attitude because of that. A lot of the guys are team first. I didn't like that.

The current and former players who made a positive impact on the locker room and organization were referred to as "team-first guys" despite being criticized for their personality.

It's up to the leadership, myself included, to help acclimate young players to the NFL and the culture of the Steelers, who won two Super Bowls with Ben Roethlisberger.

"I'm responsible for those guys." If those guys would have grown up, we wouldn't have had a Super Bowl in a long time. The older guys need to hold the guys accountable. It's up to a vet to show you what it's like to be a Steeler. I'm attempting to do that.

Maybe Ben didn't see it that way, but I'll protect my guys. It is not a "me-type of attitude" now. Everyone wants to be a Super Bowl winner and make a lot of money. We care about this logo when everything comes together. I try to extend that to my younger teammates. Ben was a little out on that.

Roethlisberger was the starting quarterback for the entire 18 years he was with the team. He was a six-time Pro Bowler, finished his career with the fifth-most passing yards in NFL history, and was a part of two Super Bowl winning teams.

He said he was explaining his side and not throwing shade at Roethlisberger.

It's not like that, said Heyward. I will make sure my team is protected. I want everyone to know that we only care about football on the field and not about off the field. Ben has been a really good quarterback. If you want to become a Hall of Fame quarterback, you don't do this game.

Ben has taken some hits that other teams can't do. He saved us, he won games we weren't supposed to, and he always stepped up. I don't want anyone to forget that the whole team won, not just Ben.
