According to the Associated Press, the Pentagon is prepared to send fighter jets and warships to protect Nancy Pelosi if she goes to Taiwan.
According to the AP, the Department of Defense had been working on plans to keep Pelosi safe if she goes to Taiwan.
The officials said that she would likely be protected on her flights to and out of Taiwan as well as on the ground.
China has warned Pelosi not to visit the island that it sees as part of China.
China's defense ministry said that Pelosi's visit would hurt China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"If the US insists on taking its own course, the Chinese military will never sit idly by, and it will definitely take strong actions to foil any external force's interference," he said.
Pelosi was supposed to go to Taiwan in April, but she tested positive for the coronaviruses, so she didn't go. According to the Financial Times, she is planning a trip in August.
China claims that Taiwan is part of the mainland, which Taiwan doesn't agree with. China does not want Taiwan to be recognized as its own nation.
In recent months, the country has increased its rhetoric and military actions towards Taiwan, with Chinese planes carrying out multiple training exercises near Taiwan's air space.
The US publicly supported Taiwan after Russia invadedUkraine. Taiwanese leaders fear that China will do the same thing in Taiwan.
The officials told the AP that Pelosi would receive more security than usual because of the additional safety measures that were put in place.
The Department of Defense and representatives for Pelosi did not reply immediately.
It would be the highest-ranking US official to visit Taiwan in over two decades if Pelosi's trip is confirmed.
