  • Gaetz voted against renewing the anti-trafficking bill.

  • Since 2000, the bill has offered protections against sex traffickers.

  • Gaetz is being investigated for possibly sex traffickers. All wrongdoing is denied by him.

Gaetz voted against reauthorizing the anti-human trafficking law.

The Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act was re-authorization in the House with a large majority of votes.

The act has severe penalties for traffickers and supports for victims.

When it passed the House and Senate with almost no opposition, it became the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act.

According to The New York Times, Gaetz has been under federal investigation since 2020 over the question of whether he had sex with a minor, and whether he paid for her to cross state lines. Sex-trafficking includes paying for a minor to travel for sex.

Gaetz has always denied any wrongdoing.

The man who Gaetz once called his "wingman" has pleaded guilty to sex crimes. Greenberg's sentencing has been delayed so he can help the investigation into Gaetz.

Gaetz didn't respond to the question about why he voted no immediately.

The idea that Gaetz had engaged in sex-trafficking was a "debunked conspiracy theory" according to a Gaetz spokesman.

On the day of the vote, Gaetz did not speak.

Gaetz was the only one to vote against another anti-trafficking law.

Anti-trafficking resources were created by the law. Gaetz pointed to his actions in Florida which he said improved prosecutors' ability to bring cases against sex traffickers.

He said that states should handle issues that the federal government handles.
