  • Tina Baylocq said she lost 70 pounds and kept it up.

  • Semaglutide and liraglutide can be used to lose weight.

  • A doctor says that the drugs are helpful with other weight loss strategies but not a quick fix.

A California woman said a combination of a healthy diet, exercise, and weight loss medication has helped her lose 70 pounds and keep it off.

Tina Baylocq told Insider that she had never tried to lose weight. After a desk job and injuries kept her from being active, she noticed that years of gradual weight gain had added up, and she found herself feeling mentally and physically strained from a poor diet and sedentary habits.

I was tired and sleepy. She said that she was eating badly and had cravings for things that wouldn't make her happy.

Baylocq is working with Enara Health on a program to lose weight.

Semaglutide became so popular that there were shortages announced by the manufacturer.

The combination of strategies has helped her lose weight.

She said that she feels better than she has in her whole life.

Medications helped reduce cravings and aid portion control

Baylocq had no idea how to lose weight when she started the diet program.

She said that she didn't know how many calories were in a meal.

Phentermine and topiramate, two medications that can aid weight loss by reducing appetite, were prescribed to her by Enara.

She used a brand name for the drug. She moved to Wegovy last year.

Diabetes and weight loss can be helped by regulating hormones associated with appetite. She said less injections worked better with her busy schedule.

She noticed that there were less cravings for foods that were hard to eat.

I have stopped liking bacon. Everyone loves bacon. She doesn't care for sugar for most of the time.

She was more aware of her appetite.

I would always go for short periods of time. Baylocq couldn't finish one plate of food. I'm willing to put it away and save it for tomorrow. I know how to stop when I don't want to eat.

Weight loss medications aren't a quick fix, but can support healthy lifestyle changes

While semaglutide and similar drugs can be useful tools, they work in combination with other weight loss strategies to mitigate the effects of hormones and metabolism on long-term weight loss.

It isn't a quick way to get around. Making it so your biology rewards you instead of trying to fight you is what makes it so.

Semaglutide is needed to maintain weight loss. Some patients can see continued results if they stick to a healthy diet and exercise more, even if they stop the injections.

Baylocq wants to take the medication for another year to see if she can keep her weight off.

She said that she needs to learn how to live her life without the drugs.
