The Atlanta Braves have a couple of targets in mind as they look to bolster their roster ahead of the trade deadline, according to a report.
The Kansas City Royals would "jump at the chance" to add Luis Castillo, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.
The Braves are enamored with Benintendi because he is a strong defensive player with a high on- base percentage and he is a left-handed hitter, which would help balance their lineup. There is a need in left field for Atlanta due to the wrist injury to Adam Duvall.
For the first time in his career, Andrew Benintendi was an All-Star. He has a.322 batting average and is tied for sixth in hits. Through 91 games, he has contributed three home runs and 39RBI.
Castillo is a sought after starter on the trade market. Through 13 starts this year, the two-time All-Star has a 2.77 earned run average and 1.08 WHIP. The 29-year-old right-handed pitcher would be a huge addition to any contender.
The Mets hold a two game lead over the Braves in the NL East. Atlanta's chances of overtaking the Mets down the stretch of the season would be boosted by the addition of a difference-maker.
