The Railroad dock in Skagway, one of the busiest cruise ports in Alaska, has been closed because of a rock slide risk, forcing cruise lines to make alternative plans.
Princess Cruises said it was adjusting itineraries for several vessels because the berths are the primary location for Royal-class ships.
The Crown Princess docked at a different pier than the Majestic Princess did on Tuesday.
Princess said it was working with Skagway and the dock's owner to figure out when calls can return to the forward berths.
Shannon & Wilson prepared a report for the city of Skagway about the slope of the cliff above the dock railroad.
The consequences of failure of the slide mass above the Railroad dock will be catastrophic, according to the company's conclusion.
Shannon and Wilson suggested that a controlled excavation be done.
