Before the last BMW i3 rolled off the production line in Germany, Mini was about to launch a new EV. A new direction for the brand is revealed by the Mini Aceman.
The first Mini to be built on a dedicated electric architecture is also the first all electric model from the brand. It isn't compromised by having to try and fit electric motor and wiring into spaces originally intended to house internal combustion machinery. The Mini Electric was built on an adapted form of the internal combustion engine model. This new electric architecture will be made in China by Great Wall Motor for Mini, which is a first for the brand.
The final production design of the Aceman car is 80 percent true, according to Mini. The Cooper and Countryman models are both 13 feet long and just under 6 feet wide, so the car will sit between them. When you see the car in person, it appears larger than it really is.
Mini, which sold 302,000 cars worldwide in 2021, expects half of its sales to be electric in the next ten years.
Despite being a four-door with a reasonable trunk and seating for five, the Aceman has a two-box design that gives it more space for passengers and luggage. The chrome trim has been replaced with a more minimalist look and glass has been fitted with the body panels. The concept has wide surrounds on the lower body, large wheels, and a custom roof rack.
The central grille of the Aceman is closed off due to the fact that the cooling is not required for the electric motor. The upper section has been added with matrixLED units that can be animated for seemingly no other reason than that it's physically possible and can be used to welcome people. The light design is one of the striking departures for the car, as it follows the lines of the body.
