There will be a price increase in August.
In the second quarter earnings call, the fast-casual chain said that the next price increase would be in the mid to high single digits. Customers in New York City will be asked to pay an additional $.58 to $1.04 on the lowest priced item on the menu.
Over the last year, there has been a price increase. Jack Hartung told investors on an earlier call that in the first quarter of 2022. When the fast-casual chain said that it raised prices about 4%, it was on top of earlier price hikes.
Customers didn't seem to mind when the burrito joint raised prices. Hartung told investors that there has been little resistance to the pricing so far. Despite continued increases, sales were up over 10% in the most recent quarter.
Continual price increases have become the norm in the industry.
Food away from home is up 7.7% over last year and food overall is up 10.4%. The chains have raised their prices. In a recent earnings call, McDonald's stated that it raised US prices in the high single digits in the most recent quarter, while Starbucks stated that it has several planned price increases for the year.
