While sitting in last place in the American League Central, the Detroit Tigers seem to be willing to tear down their roster in order to build for the future
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Tigers are indicating to teams "just about everyone is available" ahead of the trade deadline.
Detroit has had one of the worst seasons in recent memory. Through 19 starts, he has a mixed record with an 8-7 record and a 3.88 earned run.
In his first 11 starts, the 25-year-old had a 2.33 earned run average. He lost his first five outings, but rebounded in his last three outings. The San Diego Padres are in the middle of a three-game series with the Detroit tigers.
The club is in control of Skubal through the year 206. Rosenthal said that he's heard that theTigers are trying to get a big return for Skubal from teams that don't land more proven starters before the trade deadline.
Detroit beat San Diego -12 on Monday. The team won its third game in a row. The major league average for runs per game was 3.30. The team's pitching is ranked 21st in the majors with a 4.17 earned run average.
Teams might not be willing to meet Detroit's asking price if Skubal is moved. Two-time All-Star closer Gregory Soto is one of the many relief pitchers the tigers have.
