Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, expressed his faith in Mike McCarthy.

Jones told reporters Tuesday that he thinks McCarthy is the right person to lead the team to a Super Bowl.

McCarthy was upset with the discussion over his job security in Dallas.

He said he was annoyed that the first question was not about how he does his job. I show up for work to win a title. How do we get the victory today? That's what I want.

It's not a story, that's what I think. It's a narrative that's outside my realm.

The Cowboys had an 8-8 record in the first three years of the coach's tenure. After nine seasons in Dallas, Jones decided to make a coaching change, but not before he kept his job for four years.

The Dallas Cowboys went 6-10 in 2020 without the services of their quarterback. The team won the division in 2021. McCarthy gained some goodwill by guiding the team to the playoffs, but the loss to the 49ers in the Wild Card Round hurt it.

With Jones turning 80 in October and clearly desperate to collect another Super Bowl ring, one can't help but think McCarthy will be under a fair amount of scrutiny in 2022.

Jones has publicly supported his head coach, but the Cowboys haven't yet extended McCarthy's contract.

Props to whoever called Jerry out on the "I want Mike McCarthy to be our coach" position with the "Well, is there a contract extension?" question.

(You may not be surprised to learn the answer is "no.")

Officially Mike McCarthy is in year three of a five year contract. Jerry Jones was hesitant when asked why McCarthy didn’t receive a contract extension. Jones did eventually say there was no need to do that.

McCarthy can get a new deal if he wins a Super Bowl.

Jones may change his tone if the Cowboys fall short again.
