June to August is best for great weather and festivals

The summer is one of the best times to visit Amsterdam because of the warm weather and lots of daylight. International crowds attend the Awakenings Festival in July and the Dekmantel Festival in July and August.

The busiest time of the year for Amsterdam is this time of the year. Time slots at popular sights like the Anne Frank Huis and the Van Gogh Museum should be booked at least six weeks in advance.

Dutch weather can be changeable and there can be chilly spells in the summer. You won't stand out like a tourist if you don't have a jacket and umbrella.

November to February is best for budget travelers

Winter is a good time to travel. Mild temperatures and some gray and dreary conditions will not prevent you from freezing. It is common in December and January to see a little snow.

February is usually the cheapest month to visit Amsterdam. With some luck, canals will fill up with ice skaters, which will thin out the already low traffic in Amsterdam's museums even more. bruin cafés are the perfect place to warm up after admiring Dutch Golden Age paintings or taking a canal cruise.

March to May is the best time to see the tulips

The start of Amsterdam's spring is usually in the middle of March to mid- June. The best time to see tulips in full bloom is in the middle of the month of Smackdab. The best time to visit flower markets is during this time of year.

Flight prices tend to go up in April and May. The second shoulder season is September to October. The weather stays mostly sunny and mellow even though prices and visitor numbers go down from their peak season highs.

January

February

Amsterdam has a lot of lovely bruin cafés to warm up and enjoy the traditional Dutch gezellig culture. There is a parade from the Kuan Yin Shrine Buddhist temple to Dam Square. There are key events for Chinese new year.

March

The flowers bloom in March. Waterproof clothes are a must despite the weather being unreliable. The season for open-air dancing coincides with the three-day techno and house festival. The open tower day is a key event.

April

April is an Amsterdammer's favorite month due to longer days, higher temperatures, and full blooms. The biggest street party of the year is called King's Day and features orange outfits, flea market shopping and beer. The key events are King's Day and the world press photo.

May

The streets are busy in May. Mild weather this month will allow you to watch the tulips bloom. You can see windmills and watermills during National Mill Day in May. National Mill Day and remembrance and liberation day are key events.

June

The peak summer season is upon us. Open-air and waterside events are taking place as the weather is at its best. There are many garden tours and performing arts festivals in the Netherlands. The Holland Festival is one of the key events.

July

In July, lazy Amsterdam days are at their longest. Crowds swarm outside of historic buildings and museums, but it’s the perfect time to experience outdoor music, bicycle rides and sunset drinks on tiny canal-side terraces.

August

There are a lot of outdoor events in August. At this time of year, Amsterdam is a bit milder than other European capitals, with few summer closings compared to other capitals. The key events are Amsterdam City Swim, Pride Amsterdam, Grachtenfestival, and Sail Amsterdam.

September

September is a great month to visit Amsterdam. Good weather lasts for a few weeks after the summer is over. There are many good festivals. Amsterdam International Fashion Week is one of the key events.

October

Amsterdam is a warm place. There are warm colors in the city's parks. The low-season prices start to kick in and the queue starts to diminish.

November

The lack of events and sunlight make up for shorter waits at restaurants and museums. St. Nicholas arrives by boat in the second half of the year. Sinterklaas Intocht is one of the key events.

December

Even if there isn't snow in Amsterdam, it's still a wonderful time in the winter. The city has ice-skating rinks that are popular with people. New Year's Eve is a key event.
