The members of the Metro-Atlanta Reentry Prison's Aces Program received over $10,000 in business startup funds after being awarded a business plan pitch competition.

After expressing his desire to give back to his community in a non-traditional way, he became a speaker and mentor for the ACES program. A chance to present a business plan based on a college-business-plan-rubric was given to the men in the class. The top five winners would get $2,000 to start their business when they return to society.

The Boiler Seafood Atlanta states that "bad decisions don't make bad people, I know if given the tools and with the willingness to succeed these individuals can turn their smarts and criminal pasts into legal, successful business ventures."

Frank Murphy, a former football player and philanthropist, was the judge for the pitch competition. Dunk, ViaPath Technologies Chief Executive Officer, Deb Alderson and Vice President of Reintegration and Community Engagement, Tony Lowden were once part of the White House Administration. Georgia's assistant commissioner of DOC was also present.

People with drug and alcohol addictions are more likely to reoffend. More research shows that programs to help offenders get job training, housing, mental and substance abuse help before they're released reduces the likelihood they'll commit crimes again.

In order to help reduce the crime rate around Atlanta from repeat offenders, the top five competitors were given $2,000 each and the other four were given $1,000. He plans to open five more restaurants in the Atlanta market in order to give jobs to convicted felons.

He put up start-up costs for the gentleman's businesses as well as plans to mentor them once they return to society. He wants to help convicted felons turn their lives around for the better. The business competition is going to be implemented in prisons across the nation.
