The second five-star pledge in Kentucky's 2023 class was announced on Monday by five-star small forward JustinEdwards.
The two SEC schools competed for his services over the past few months. Tennessee was the early favorite after it hosted him for a visit in March, but Kentucky was the early favorite after it extended a scholarship offer to him.
Since the July live evaluation period began, the Cats have had most of the attention, and coach John Calipari made it a priority to keep an eye on him.
He is a wing from Imhotep Institute Charter High School in Philadelphia. He was one of the most productive players on the Nike EYBL circuit during the 2014–2018.
At the Peach Jam tournament, he helped lead his team to the quarterfinals. In the win over G.G. Jackson, he had 17 points and 13 rebound.
"As of late, he has been on a tear," said Paul Biancardi, national recruiting director. He played well at the Peach Jam because of his long frame and he scored and rebounded well. He is a big lefty wing who is very aggressive. He can switch from defense to offense.
His jumper is more than capable, but where he thrives is in transition as a high-level finish. He dominates in the half court with hard, straight-line drives and trips to the free throw line.
Kentucky has two five-star recruits and three top 30 prospects in their 2023 recruiting class, with Edward joining Robert and Reed as well as two other five-star recruits. 1 overall prospect D.J. Wagner and are squarely in the mix for Ron Holland and other top prospects.
