Kyler Murray's contract extension requires him to study film for four hours per week in order to stay in compliance.

"Independent study addendum" is what the clause is called. According to a source who has seen the contract, there is an additional clause in it.

Murray will need to study material given to him by the club in order to prepare for the next game. The contract states that Murray will get credit for completing his film study. Murray won't get credit if he doesn't personally study the provided material in good faith, according to the addendum.

Murray won't get credit if he's not studying or watching the material while it plays on his tablet or if he's doing something that can distract him or draw his attention away from the material.

Murray will be deemed to be in default of his contract if he fails to meet the additional requirements. The club option will be available when the addendum ends in 2028.

An extension was agreed to by Murray. It's worth up to $230.5 million with a guaranteed value of up to $170 million.

It is believed that a clause requiring a player to study more outside of team meetings is unusual, if not unprecedented.
