I like to lounge on the couch, check my emails, and add to my to-do lists while I watch TV. It's a great way to stay productive and get things done, and it's about to get even easier to use your tablets to stay up to date.

The 12L software update was introduced earlier this year to make larger screens easier to use. At I/O, we shared plans to update more than 20 apps on tablets to take full advantage of the extra space on larger screens.

In order to get started, today we are making the apps even better on the larger screens of the device.

Drag and drop files for better productivity

Multiplying across two windows at once is a great feature of tablets. When you have two screens open on your large-screen device, we have built out new ways to use the Google workspace app.

You can drag and drop text or images from any app into a document or spreadsheet cell.

Drag and drop files into the app in the drive. Links to Drive files can be added by dragging the file into Keep.

You can drag images out of the image carousel in Keep to insert them into other apps.

Sometimes you need to open a folder in Drive to find the file you are looking for. You can now open two Drive windows at the same time. Simply select the three-dot menu on any Drive file and open it in a new window. If you need to hit the back button multiple times, this will help you get the information you need.

The use of tablets as an alternative to laptops is common. If you are using an attached keyboard to type, you can use simple and familiar keyboard shortcuts, such as select, cut, copy, paste and redo, to quickly navigate around Drive, Docs and Slides, without needing to slow down and take your hands off the keys.

Over the next few weeks, these updates will be rolled out to the big screens of the phones. We will continue to add new features for the apps on the larger screens of the phones.
