The PS5 has been out for a couple of years now, and people are waiting for Sony's next step into the world of virtual reality Sony is the only console giant that has taken the leap intoImmersive gaming. The original PSVR is considered to be out of date in this high-end technological market.

The old headset still has an incredible library of games, with classics like Astro Bot Rescue Mission and the remake of Tetris Effect being examples. When you want to be at the cutting edge of technology, you don't need a lot of games. Hardware and graphical specifications from 2016 won't suffice. The original PSVR doesn't hold a candle to the best virtual reality headsets out there.

In February 2021, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience at Sony, Hideaki Nishino, confirmed that the company was currently developing an all-new virtual reality headset compatible with the PS 5. Nishino revealed all of the new specifications and the design of the PSVR 2 headset early this year.

There are still many rumors surrounding what the upcoming headset will be. We did the hard work so you don't have to, and we scoured the internet archives to bring you the information you need about the PSVR 2. If you can't wait, you can use our virtual reality headset deals guide.

What is the PSVR 2?

The announcement of a virtual reality headset that is compatible with the current generation of PS consoles was great for players, but they were surprised by how little information came with it. Nishino gave vague details with no concrete facts and figures about the headset, which he referred to as the "Next-Generation Virtual Reality System".

Nishino referred to the system as the PSVR2 in a later post. Nishino promised improved performance and interactivity, as well as enhanced resolution, field of view, tracking, and input, but didn't give any concrete details. The PSVR 2 will be in line with other high end consoles on the market, he confirmed in his January 22nd post.

In his initial announcement, Nishino gave two pieces of official information. The first is that the new Sony VR will have controllers that are completely different from the ones used in the PS5. The current PSVR still uses the controllers that came out during the PS3's lifespan, which was good news.

The new system will have a single wire for connecting to the PS5. Five cables were needed to set up the original headset, so this is a great offer for cable-conscious consumers. The design and official specifications of the system were revealed in the year 2022.

What does the PSVR 2 look like?

The first look at the redesign of the headset was given by Nishino. The design of the headset was influenced by the PS5 and controllers. The system has a more curved appearance. It's possible to place it on a surface without fear of it rolling away.

The design has been tested on a variety of head shapes and sizes, according to Nishino. The way to adjust the headset, as well as the placement of the headphones, remain the same from its predecessor.

Player comfort is also changed. You can adjust the distance between your eyes with the new headset. A vent is installed to prevent sweat from pooling on the lens. The PS5 has icons in the plastic. There is a pattern in the headset.

Fans will be happy to hear that the new headset is a bit lighter than the original one. Nishino doesn't give any specific details, so it's likely a very small reduction. It is impressive that they can add a motor and still reduce weight.

How much will the PSVR 2 cost?

It will most likely be a while before Sony announces the price of their next-gen headset. It is possible to make an estimate with what we know. The original price for the virtual reality headset was $399. The price for the version without the camera was less than the price for the one with it.

Hardware makes a loss when it's launched, turning a profit later with additional hardware, software, and subscription sales. The PS5 is one of the exceptions. The PSVR 2 will likely run at a loss when it is first released. Sony would probably hesitate to set the price point much higher than the original.

Consumers are comfortable paying more for the PS5 than the PS4 did. The new virtual reality will come with a set of controllers. Since Sony has focused its marketing around them, this is plausible.

Sony will be hesitant to surpass the launch price of the PS5 for a virtual reality set. We think you can get the PSVR 2 for around 500 dollars.

Rumors suggest that Sony has begun manufacturing the new hardware. There is some information that holds some weight. According to the most credible claim to date, it's from Bloomberg, who wrote an in-depth article about the current state of screen manufacturers and where they're headed.

Japan Display Inc., one of the leading screen producers, stated in the report that they have a relationship with almost every virtual reality developer. The original version of the PS3 and the PS4 are still using the higher quality and more expensive products that were used in the first version.

The release dates have something to do with screens. According to people with knowledge of the matter, Sony is working with SAMSUNG to develop anOLED screen that will be released in late 2022, according to the report. conflicting reports say that we are looking at an early 2023 time frame According to analysts, Sony wants to wait until after the holiday season in 2022. The company demoed the headset at the Game Developers conference in March, but it is thought that the initial release date has been delayed.

Sony has confirmed an increase in the field of view with previous predictions. The current industry standard for a virtual reality screen is around 120.

Each eye 2000 x 2040 resolution is offered by the new resolution. Enhanced tracking, a reference to eye- tracking, as well as headset-based controller tracking will be included in the PSVR 2. The motion sickness in virtual reality would be helped by this as players wouldn't have to look at their whole head.

The official announcement refers to the headset vibration as the reason for the motion-sickness reduction patent filed bySony. Improvements with comfort for glasses wearers is one of the things it points towards. This section of gaming is specifically taken into account by the patent. In the February post, the details were confirmed.

The patent shows a screen on the outside of the headset that shows the user's expressions to an audience. Implications for streaming and gaming would have arisen from this. This isn't the case now that the design has been revealed.

There is at least one patent that is still possible. Sony patented the ability to use everyday objects, such as a banana, as controllers. This could show how Sony intends to blend virtual reality with augmented reality.

What are the new PSVR 2 controllers?

The new controllers are something that we are confident in. The new controller design has been the focus of Sony's release information. The unique shape of the orb allows for a more natural grip. The shape makes the controller feel more natural to hold. It's likely that the controllers will need to be used as a pair because the action buttons are divided over the two phones.

Many features will be included in the new controllers, including the dual sense controllers. These new controllers may be the most realistic in virtual reality to date.

Better tracking is one of the things they do. The controllers will be able to track where your fingers are on them, as well as the headset, which will be able to track these controllers. This will allow all new ways of control in PS4 and should allow you to interpret your movements much more accurately than the current system, which relies on tracking from the camera.

Does the original PlayStation VR work with the PlayStation 5?

There is a somewhat complicated answer to this question. Yes, this short answer is correct. Since the current generation camera is not compatible with the original headset, you will need to order an accessory from Sony to link your PS4 camera to your PS5. When you start thinking about software compatibility, it gets more difficult. When playing original PSVR games on the current generation console, their processing speeds are better.

The PS5 and PS4 versions do not work with the original PS Vive. You will need the PS4 version of the game to play it in virtual reality.

The development kits for the new system went out at the beginning of the year. Sony tried to get developers to create games for the new hardware at two developer conferences. The titles won't work with the old systems.

What games are coming to PSVR 2?

According to a report, Sony is encouraging developers to make their consoles compatible with virtual reality. Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo seem to have been developed for virtual reality. There is a rumor that Gran Turismo 7 was developed for Sony's new virtual reality headset. Polyphony Digital is owned by Sony, so it is likely that this will be released on the new virtual reality system.

There are two more Sony owned studios that are working on a game for the console. The title of the game is called "Horizon Call of the Mountain". We have the title of the new game, but no other information has been released.

Some posts show that other studios are working on PSVR 2. A game designer for First Contact Entertainment, the studio which developed Firewall: Zero Hour and Solaris Offworld Combat for the original PSVR, added a line to their LinkedIn page which said they were working on a project for the new system. More games are likely to be confirmed before the headset goes on sale.
