A group of researchers have rejected the idea of splitting the tyrannosaurus rex into three different species.
The teeth and leg bones of 38 T. rex fossils were analysed by Scott Persons and his colleagues at the College of Charleston.
According to Persons's team, there was an early species of tyrannosaurus imperator, which evolved into two other species, one of which had a slender frame and thin thigh bones. T. rex was the name retained by the other. The team found that there was variation in the shape of the teeth in the lower jaw.
