The Governor of California declared a state of emergency for the county as the Oak Fire burned homes and forced thousands of people to flee.
According to a statement from the Governor's office, the fire had burned more than 11,500 acres and forced more than 3000 people to leave their homes.
The Oak Fire had burned 16,791 acres and was 10 percent contained by Monday.
According to public records, the Oak Fire is the largest wildfire of the year.
The largest wildfire in the history of California is not yet close to the Oak Fire. The August Complex fire in August 2020 burned more than one million acres and took 935 structures down, according to historical records.
The cause of the fire was being investigated by the department.
The statement from the office of the governor says that the fire has spread quickly because of the hot, dry weather.
The most dangerous California fires are caused by dry conditions. According to the Western Fire Chiefs Association, wildfire season in Northern California lasts from July through October. The Southern California wildfire season begins in May.
According to the federal drought information service, all of the residents of the county are affected by the current dry spell. For the 128 years that there are records, this is the driest year so far.
There is research linking California wildfires to climate change, even though it is too early to say the cause of the Oak Fire incident. Between 1972 and 2018, the burned area increased five times and the number of summer forest fire events increased eight times.
Warming effects were visible in the fall when fuels were more likely to be dry. The study said that the ability of dry fuels to promote large fires is not always good. The forests of the Sierra Nevada and North Coast in California have seen a significant increase in wildfire activity due to human-caused warming.
Parts of Europe burned in due to the fires in California.
The US has not been able to get climate legislation through Congress due to the stalling of Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginia.
The Oak Fire is still burning, but firefighters are starting to make progress. The California Department of Fire Protection reported that firefighters made good progress.
