Brin may be able to make over $100 million by cashing out his stake in the company.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter, that Musk instructed his financial advisers to sell his personal positions in his companies after he had an affair with Brin's wife.

The size of Brin's investments in Musk's businesses wasn't known by the Journal. Insider didn't get a response from the two companies. Musk said that the claims of an affair were total BS.

The electric-vehicle company raised a total of 40 million dollars thanks to Brin's bet. He gave another $500,000 into the company in December 2008 as part of a $40 million raise that was enough to keep the lights on for a while.

Brin has never owned more than 5% of the company, and didn't sell any shares when it went public. It's not clear whether Brin has sold his stake in the company or not.

Brin's stake in the company would be worth over 100 million dollars if we assumed that he owned $500,000 of the company's stock. As of Friday's close, the company's shares were over $800, a roughly 200-fold gain from when they first went public.

Huge gains have been made by other shareholders as a result of the soaring stock price ofTesla. As of March 31, Larry Ellison held about 15 million shares of the company. He spent about $1 billion on this position.

As of Friday's close, Musk's stake in the company was worth over $200 billion.
