According to sources, the Boston Celtics have emerged as one of the teams involved in talks on a possible deal with the Nets.
Sources said that Boston's ability to include All-Star forward Jaylen Brown as a centerpiece in offers does help to make the team formidable in its pursuit of KD.
Sources said that the Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors have differing degrees of interest in the same player, but the Celtics have been in contact with the Nets.
There are no deals believed to have traction for KD, and no team has yet to reach the significant threshold that the Nets have set to trade one of the league's best players. According to sources, the Nets want a massive return that could include multiple protected first-round picks, pick swaps and impact players for KD.
The Celtics don't consider All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum off limits in any trade talks, but Boston is able to build a package that includes Brown and as many as three first-round picks. Brown has two more years on his contract.
The NBA's Most Valuable Player asked for a trade on June 30 and hasn't backed off. With four years and $198 million left on his contract, Brooklyn can be patient with waiting out teams for the kind of return it believes will eventually emerge for one of the few players to ever reach the trade market in hisprime.
The Celtics won the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series against the Nets last season, and built their current team from the draft compensation of the Kevin and Paul trades. The Brooklyn picks delivered to Boston led to the acquisition of both Brown and Tatum.
