The conversation about colorism in Hollywood has been sparked by Keke Palmer's starring role in Jordan Peele's new movie. The deal is here. Some argue that this is Keke's breakthrough moment in the mainstream, after she made a splash in "Nope". She's worked in lots of movies and shows for a long time, but prior to this, she wasn't a household name. She's on the map like she's never been before because of JP's movie. Someone on the bird app said that Keke deserves the same hype and adulation that Zendaya gets. People began talking about why one might have ascended earlier than the other. This is pitting two women of color against each other and it is an interesting one. Even though they're both around the same age and both have a Disney background, one has more acting credits than the other. There is backlash to the fact that this is being discussed at all, with fans of Zendaya coming to her defense in what they say feels like a personal attack against their idol. There seems to be a good majority of people who feel like Zendaya, through no fault of her own, has benefited from her mixed-race background. We need to note. In the past, Zendaya has acknowledged that she wants to help her community, the Black community, get on the same level in the entertainment industry. We're certain that the debate will continue. She has been killing it since forever, but "Nope" is something different. This is one of those star-making roles. We'll see more of Keke soon.
