After learning that Musk had an affair with Brin's wife, Brin told his financial advisers to stop investing in Musk's companies.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that Brin and his wife divorced in January after he found out about the affair.

The friendship between Brin and Musk was strained before Brin sold his investments in Musk's businesses. The Journal doesn't know how large those investments are or if there have been any sales.

After making a $44 million bid for the company, Musk tried to back out of the deal, but he is currently in litigation with the company.

In 2008 Brin invested $500,000 in the company.

The New York Times reported that Fidelity and Google invested $1 billion in the company.
