Hulu's The Orville Will Soon Be Available for Streaming on Disney+

The panel at San Diego Comic-Con didn't bring much in the way of news, but still no word on whether or not the show will get a fourth season, for instance.

The announcement was made by Captain Edmercer.

When the powers that be decide whether or not to greenlight more episodes, bringing the first three seasons to Disney+ will introduce the show to a much wider audience. MacFarlane said he was excited to bring The Orville to Disney+. Making this show has been one of the highlights of my career, and I am grateful to Disney for allowing us to expand our Orville community further. I can't wait for people to see this series.

MacFarlane beamed into Comic-Con, but his co-stars were not present.

There is a bonus of sorts in the form of The Orville: Sympathy for the Devil, a recently released MacFarlane-penned novella. It became impractical to shoot 11 episodes because of covid. If you can pick it up, we couldn't shoot it in Los Angeles. He told the crowd that it was difficult to find a location that would fit the story. I wrestled with the question, "Do we gamble for a season four, and just hold onto this and shoot it then?" You will see why if you read the book.

It is possible that we could still shoot more episodes of the show if we end up with more episodes. You don't want to give it up, it's one of those weird ideas. I wrote it as a short story because I wanted to get this story out there for The Orville. It is a very unique episode, and if you read it you will understand why it would have been difficult to shoot.

MacFarlane wouldn't say much about what to expect from the rest of The Orville's season despite a brief clip reel teasing the last two episodes. He didn't know if there would be a fourth season. I don't think we'll know until this season is over, streaming platforms don't track ratings like traditional networks do There is a desire on our part to get it.

The first three seasons of The Orville will be available on Disney+ on August 10, but the final two episodes of season three will be available on Hulu on July 28 and August 4.
