John Metchie III, a member of the Houston Texans, has been diagnosed with leukemia and will not play this season.

Metchie said in a statement that he was diagnosed withAcute Promyelocytic Leukemia, the most curable form of leukemia.

I am currently receiving great medical care and I expect to make a recovery at a later point in time. I won't be playing football this season due to this diagnosis. My top priority will be my health and recovery. Thanks for your support and well wishes. I can't wait to return stronger. It is God's blessing.

The Houston Texans traded up in the second round to get Metchie 44th overall.

Metchie had 96 catches for 1,142 yards and eight touchdown before tearing his knee in the SEC Championship game. He was expecting to be ready for training camp.
