Jim Irsay, the owner of the Colts, made a big late night acquisition.
Irsay's newest move was not related to football. Muhammad Ali's title belt was won in the fighter's 1974 "Rumble in the Jungle" win over George Foreman.
The item was bought by Irsay at an auction for $6 million. The sun is setting Sunday morning. It's considered to be one of the most important examples of boxing history. According to Heritage Auctions, the belt is one of only two known AliWBC belts and is unlikely to be sold.
Irsay has a collection of Ali items, including the belt. The shoes Ali wore in "Thrilla in Manila" were purchased by him. Irsay bought the robe Ali wore in his first fight after changing his name.
Hundreds of items have been compiled by Irsay. They range from rare rock and roll items like the black Stratocaster guitar of Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, to documents written by America's founding fathers like the Declaration of Independence. One of the most expensive items Irsay has ever bought is the Ali belt.
When belts began being awarded in 1976, Ali was the winner of the 1974 fight. Ali gave up the title in 1978.
