Ahead of the publication of a review of racism in the sport, the board of Cricket Scotland resigned.
Findings of institutional racism are expected to be reported.
The directors left immediately on Sunday.
"We are all truly sorry and have apologized to everyone who has experienced racism, or any other form of discrimination, in cricket in Scotland," they said in a statement.
They said in the letter that they had not seen the report.
They were made aware of the proposals in the document.
Plans to find a quick resolution to the racism issues and to update the governance of the sport were not feasible due to the current framework.
SportScotland funded the investigation which is due to be published on Monday.
The allegations of racism and discrimination were made by a leading cricketer.
"Cricket Scotland will work in partnership with Sportscotland with immediate effect to ensure appropriate governance, leadership and support is in place for the organisation and the sport in the days ahead."
After the report into racism in cricket in Scotland is published, the arrangements will be reviewed.
A number of referrals and allegations were forwarded to Police Scotland during the review.
More than 200 people came forward to testify in the interim report.
