Pete Arredondo's friends are puzzled by his decisions after the Robb Elementary School shooting.

Jesse Rizo, an old friend of Arredondo's from their time together as students at Uvalde High School, told The Associated Press that his feelings for his friend have become complicated after the shooting.

I'm interested in Pete. I care that he's okay. I don't want a person to lose their mind.

Rizo said he couldn't understand why Arredondo wouldn't quit.

One of the first officers on the scene was Arredondo.

It was blamed on Arredondo that he waited over an hour for backup instead of confronting the shooter. A number of law enforcement officers were at Robb Elementary while the shooter was on the run.

After being placed on administrative leave from the school's police force, Arredondo resigned from the council.

Rizo wants his friend to be fired from his police job and for other officers to be held responsible for their lack of action.

Rizo told the AP that there are consequences to that.

Arredondo said good to hear from him. Please pray for the babies and thank you for that.
