While the pilot shortage iswreaking havoc on airlines' flight schedules, one airline says it's facing additional shortages impacting customer experience onboard
The CEO of American Airlines told investors on an earnings call this week that the company is struggling to provide many of the basic items to passengers for comfort in-flight.
Isom said that pilots are one part. It's not a day that we don't have issues with providing our aircraft with pillows, blankets, plastic cups, food." We have issues with fuel.
There are a lot of things that have to come together to make an aircraft fly. We keep an eye on the supply chain for aircraft parts. We are dependent on a lot of other parts of the system.
American Airlines did not reply right away.
According to reports, Isom said last month that American will raise pay for 14,000 pilots more than originally proposed to help mitigate staffing challenges. The airline grounded 100 regional jets because it didn't have enough pilots.
The Air Line Pilots Association voted last month to approve a tentative agreement that would give pilots a 14.5% pay raise over 18 months.
Delta Air Lines has formed a partnership with Wheels Up to help pilots finish their training quicker so they can be hired sooner.
