The company has been given its own lane at the US-Mexico border to speed up deliveries.
After Musk moved the company's headquarters to Texas, the state of Nuevo Leon struck a deal with the company and its suppliers.
According to Ivan Rivas, the economy minister of Nuevo Leon, there was a dedicated lane at theColombia Solidarity checkpoint for the delivery ofTesla parts into the US.
Rivas said the incentive was a simple one. We want a crossing that's quicker and easier to navigate. It is possible that there will be a lane for other companies in the future.
Contractual obligations or conditions of the agreement have not been given.
The crossing point is fairly quiet with the longest wait times around lunchtime.
The US won't give the company a dedicated lane at its own checkpoint, so the lane may not prove to be a big deal.
According to Rick Pauza of the US Customs and Border Protection, if a truck is in an anti-terrorism program, it must use a cargo lane. There isn't a dedicated lane for any particular company.
Taiwanese and Mexican companies have operations in Nuevo Leon. Rivas expects the EV sector to contribute between 5% and 7% of the state's investment this year.
The company didn't reply immediately to Insider's request for comment.
