Raimel Tapia hit an inside-the-park grand slam after a misplay by Boston center fielder Jarren Duran and the Toronto BlueJays set a franchise record for runs in a game.

Toronto was within two runs of the modern major league record for runs in a game after stranding two in the ninth, but the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. tied Frank Catalanotto's franchise record with six hits.

The BlueJays broke their previous single-game record of 24 runs set in 1976 against the Orioles.

The 28 runs are the most ever given by a Boston team, beating the previous record of 27 by Cleveland in 1923.

The Blueshirts had a two-game lead over Boston for the final wild-card spot in the American League. The BlueJays improved their record against Boston to 3-7 this year.

The home run sprint was the beginning.

With two outs in the third, Tapia lifted a two-out fly ball to center against the relief pitcher.

He put up his hands after taking a couple steps back. The Boston fans groaned when the ball hit the track.

Left fielder Alex Verdugo slid to scoop the ball and threw it to the infield as Duran walked slowly towards the ball. The relay home was not close to nabbing Tapia, who picked up speed when he realized he had lost the ball.

Boston made mistakes on defense in the fifth. Trailing 15-3, Chapman lifted a two-out pop-up on the infield that fell between catcher Kevin Plawecki and the rest of the infield, allowing another run to cross.

The Boston faithful stayed in their seats and jeered it. The people that stayed tried to make the best of a bad night.

The fans rose to their feet for the traditional signing. On an evening as memorable as it was, it ended with a lot of people booing.

There is only one cheer left. When the game ended.

The current MLB record for runs in a game is 30 by the Texas Rangers against the Baltimore Orioles. In 1897, the Chicago Colts played the Louisville Colonels.
