The House committee investigating the January 6 insurrection hailed the ruling in Steve Bannon's contempt trial as an important affirmation of their work.

A jury on Friday found Steve Bannon guilty of contempt of Congress after he refused to comply with a subpoena from the January 6 committee.

The ruling was called a "victory for the rule of law" by committee Chairman Bennie Thompson and Vice Chair Liz Cheney.

The lawmakers said that Steve Bannon "chose allegiance to Donald Trump over compliance with the law." Anyone who obstructs our investigation into these matters should be held accountable. Everyone is subject to the law.

He stated Friday that he had lost the battle but not the war. He could face up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine for each count. October is when the sentencing will take place.
