One thing that may unite Joe Biden and Donald Trump is their desire to work together as president.

Experience shows that the two political foes won't be calling each other to compare notes.

Their approach to testing positive has been vastly different from the White House's approach.

Presidential personality and health are important factors. A bigger factor is where we were at that time.

They are carrying the virus. 437 people in the US are still dying every day despite Biden's vaccinations. An experimental drug was given to Trump, who was hospitalized for three days at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Both men have taken steps to show their strength. Biden and Trump handled a COVID diagnosis differently.

Before testing positive

The announcement of Biden's diagnosis followed a busy couple of days that included a trip to Massachusetts with members of Congress and his administration. He met with Olena Zelenska at the White House. Biden did not wear a mask during his meeting with the crown prince.

Biden had tested negative as recently as Tuesday, according to the White House press secretary.

On October 2, 2020, he said that he had evidence.

Three days before his presidential debate with Biden, Trump tested positive for carbon dioxide, according to his former Chief of Staff, MarkMeadows. The White House did not reveal either of the results of the tests.

The Rose Garden ceremony was held to celebrate the confirmation of Justice Amy ConeyBarrett.

The event was called a "super spreader" by multiple news outlets.

The announcement

Trump broke his own news on the social networking site.

In the early hours of the morning, at 1 a.m.

The president said that he and the first lady tested positive for the disease. Immediately, we will start our recovery and Quarantine process. We are going to get through this together.

The physician for the White House issued a statement after Trump confirmed the good news.

The President and First Lady are both well and will remain in the White House during their convalescence.

Two days later, the news came again, this time from the White House. At that time, Trump said he was going to get sick.

The US first learned of Biden's positive test through an email Jean-Pierre sent to reporters, which was widely disseminated through social media.

According to the statement, Biden was taking Paxlovid. Kevin O'Connor has worked with Biden for decades. Biden followed up with "Folks, I'm doing good."

The White House held a press conference on Biden's health. The White House wouldn't allow O'Connor to answer questions.

The Biden administration is doing things differently than the last one, according to the White House press secretary.

Jean-Pierre told a reporter that he didn't think it mattered where Biden caught Covid.

She said she was trying to say that he was working for the American people and that he had mild symptoms.

Plans change

A planned trip to Pennsylvania tout a new crime fighting fund was canceled after Biden's illness. He is being isolated in the White House for at least five days.

Biden was going to go to Florida on Monday, but he canceled it because of his diagnosis. He was going to give a speech at a law enforcement conference and then attend a rally for the DNC.

On Friday morning, O'Connor said that Biden's temperature went up the previous night but he didn't respond to medicine.

The White House flew Trump to Walter Reed hospital in a helicopter less than a day after he announced he had cancer.

Trump wore a navy blue suit and a face mask while walking across the White House lawn.

The reel

After arriving at Walter Reed, Trump posted a video to his account to assure the nation of his health.

He thanked everyone for their support. I'm going to the hospital. I feel like I'm doing well. We will make sure that everything works out. The first lady is doing a good job. Thank you very much. I'll always remember it. I would like to thank you.

The video of the president's condition was posted by the White House team. Biden wore a blue blazer and said he was doing well.

He told them to keep the faith. It is going to be okay.

The presidents posted pictures of themselves working. Trump posted a picture at Walter Reed. He could both work and receive care in thepresidential suite.

The reaction

On January 6th, Trump heard the day of Biden's announcement. His successor's illness was not mentioned.

Biden wished Trump well when he contracted the novel coronaviruses and said he and his wife were praying for the Trumps' quick and full recovery.

Democrats wished Trump well and scolded him for not taking the disease seriously. Pelosi said that Trump had created a "brazen invitation for something like this to happen" after he appeared before a crowd.

Opinion columns said that Trump was stupid and arrogant. USA Today posted a picture of all the people who attended the Rose Garden ceremony and asked readers to help them figure out who the people were who got the disease.

Biden also faced backlash for his illness. He was mocked for saying "You're not going to get covid if you have these vaccinations" last year.

News organizations wrote explainers about the presidential line of succession if Biden couldn't do his job.

As a former White House physician, Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson recommended that President Biden remain in isolation for the next 20 days. To be safe...

Doctor's orders

Both Biden and Trump released statements from their doctors after being diagnosed with cancer. They were both criticized about transparency.

Despite multiple requests from journalists, the White House refused to make O'Connor available for questions.

He refused to answer some reporters' questions when Trump was at Walter Reed. The fact that Trump's condition was worse than previously disclosed was revealed by Meadows.

The ethical and legal dilemma faced by presidential doctors is difficult. Even if a patient is the president of the United States, doctors can't give out information about them without their consent. Doctors could lose their licenses, face fines or even go to prison if they share patient information without their consent.

No law requires presidents to give information about their health to the public.

'Show him working'

Both presidents tried to convince the public that they are still working.

Style similarities end at that point.

The Secret Service agents who drove Trump to the hospital worried medical experts because he left the hospital to drive past supporters. They were wearing protective gear.

After being released from Walter Reed, Trump returned to the White House and posed for pictures on the Truman balcony.

Trump said not to be afraid of Covid. Don't let it get in your way.

In a matter of months, 210,000 people in the US had died from the disease.

Biden told his supporters in a video that he appreciated their concerns and had been holding virtual meetings. Friday he apologized for his voice.

He said he was feeling a lot better than he sounded.

Jen Psaki, a former White House press secretary, said on Thursday that the White House has been preparing for Biden to sign a contract.

The White House made clear that there would be daily updates and she appreciated that.

"What they need to do over the next couple of days is show him working and show him still active and serving as president and I'm certain they'll likely do that," she said.
