Another scary piece of health news came out today.

We decided to put together a list of all the infectious diseases that you probably want to keep an eye out for. It's a happy weekend.

Polio

The new kid on the block got a big shout out.

According to CNBC, health officials in New York said yesterday that they had confirmed the first US case of the disease in over a decade. America had previously eradicated the disease with vaccine.

The unvaccinated person who contracted the disease is a Rockland County resident. They were admitted to the hospital after they had a bad experience.

According to CNBC, the person who contracted the strain is believed to have gotten the oral vaccine. The oral vaccine is no longer available in the US so doctors think they caught the virus abroad.

Rockland County executive Ed Day said at a news conference that the person is no longer contagious. Figuring out if anyone else has been affected by this disease is one of the issues we are focusing on.

Monkeypox

The first Monkeypox case in the US was found in Massachusetts in May, and has since been reported in multiple states.

The virus is being transmitted through sex, according to health officials.

COVID-19

Hello darkness. President Joe Biden is locked away in the White House doing paperwork with no tie after the new COVID-19 variant dropped a few weeks ago.

This is the biggest one on the list. Around 400 Americans are dying from this one every single day, and compared to other times during the Pandemic, that's actually progress.

This variant has shown a high number of re-infections and hospitalizations. The same things are done: wash your hands, limit contact, wear a mask, and get vaccinations.

Honorable Mention: Snail Meningitis

There hasn't been an outbreak of this yet, but Giant African Snails are carrying a potentially deadly pathogen that can cause Meningitis in humans.

Let's stay that way. At one point, COVID and Monkeypox seemed to be a distant threat.

That's right, yes. Happy Friday from all of us. Do not touch any snails in Florida.

There are more upsetting health news to be reported. A lawsuit claims there is a toxic ingredient in skittles.
