Relief checks are expected to be given to thousands of low income Florida families.

A $450 child will be sent to struggling families in the state, thanks to the reallocation of some COVID-19 relief funds.

Laura Walthall, a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Children and Families, said in a statement that the one-time payment helps families who are being affected by rising inflation.

The governor has set aside money from the American Rescue Plan Act to fund the checks.

Families receiving funds from the Florida Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program or Guardianship Assistance Program are eligible for recipients.

About 59,000 families are expected to receive at least one check from the Florida Department of Children and Families.
