Amari Cooper Says CeeDee Lamb Is 'Definitely Ready to Step Up' as Cowboys' No. 1 WR

The Cleveland receiver believes his former teammate is up to the challenge of being the top wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, Cooper said that Dee was ready. It's just about chance. He's ready to step up if KellenMoore decides to feature him. "Cee Dee is a leader."

Lamb needs to be Dallas' unquestioned leader in the passing game with Cooper and Gallup out.

Lamb exceeded Cooper's numbers last season. The second-year wideout led the team in both catches and yards and scored six times, ranking second behind Cooper. Cooper caught more passes than anyone else.

The Cowboys were comfortable with using Lamb as their top receiver.

McCarthy spoke to reporters last month about Lamb's readiness for the role.

Dee Dee is at the top. You have to give the ball to the people you care about. When talking about offensive football, ball distribution is always a point of emphasis. We discuss how many touches the perimeter players should have. Whoever plays flanker is going to be the number one read in a lot of progressions. He is ready for that chance.

Lamb was drafted by Dallas in the 2020 draft. When he was a freshman, the Oklahoma product caught 74 passes for 935 yards and five touchdown. He scored a touchdown and ran for over 80 yards.

Outside of Lamb, the Cowboys can look at James Washington, Simi Fehoko, and Noah Brown.

If Gallup misses the beginning of the season, the Cowboys will likely rely more on their running game, which will include Tony Pollard and Zeke.

The team finished the season with a 12-5 record but lost to the 49ers in the first round of the playoffs. The last time Dallas made a deep playoff run, they won the Super Bowl.
