The NCAA has charged Tennessee's football program with 18 Level I alleged rules violations, the most severe under its rules, for impermissible recruiting benefits.

The mothers of two prospects are said to have been given about $9,000 by the man. He is accused of making 25 cash payments to his wife to help her pay her car payment.

In a Notice of Allegations that was sent to the university on Friday, the NCAA said that Tennessee was not charged with lack of institutional control because of its cooperation with NCAA investigators.

Tennessee chancellor Donde Plowman said that they took quick and decisive actions that exemplified the longstanding values of the NCAA. The university terminated the employment of football coaches and staff members immediately after hiring outside counsel to investigate allegations about the football program.

The NCAA accused him of failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance. The San Diego Chargers have a defensive backs coach, a former outside linebackers coach, and a former inside linebackers coach, among others.

"Pruitt didn't demonstrate that he monitored his staff or promoted an atmosphere of compliance within the football program when at least a dozen of his staff members were involved in more than 200 individual violations of NCAA legislation over a two-year time period as detailed in Allegations No. According to the number of staff members involved and the nature of the violations, J. Pruitt failed to demonstrate that compliance was a shared responsibility or establish clear expectations that all coaches and staff members comply with NCAA rules.

The NCAA accused Pruitt and his staff of hosting six recruits and their families during a yearlong dead period in which they weren't allowed to have on-campus recruiting activity. The Volunteers hosted prospects on nine weekends between July 2020 and November 2020 in which they received free lodging, meals, transportation and other benefits, according to the NCAA.

A trip on the Tennessee River on a student-athlete's boat is said to be one of the benefits given to prospects.

The removal of the Notice of Allegations was a necessary step in the process, according to Danny White. We are one step closer to a resolution. I can't talk about the case in any detail until we get there. We are committed to protecting our current and future student-athletes despite the fact that we need to take responsibility for what happened.

Despite the large number of Level I violations, the NCAA enforcement staff chose not to charge the university with lack of institutional control.

The standard for any inquiry into potential violations should be the actions taken by the institution during the investigation. The institution cooperated in many ways. After the institution's chancellor was made aware of potential violations within the football program, the institution took swift action to investigate the allegations.

At Tennessee, he was 16-19 and 10-16 against the SEC. In his first time as a head coach, the Vols were 2-11 against ranked opponents. The New York Giants hired him as a senior defensive analyst.
