A number of high-profile moves have taken place this summer.
Manchester City and Barcelona have signed just about everyone else.
It is not likely that any of these moves were made when the player bumped into the chairman while walking his dog.
That is how 10th tier Beverley Town ended up signing the biggest and strangest signing in their 22 year history.
Some of the biggest names in European football have been played by Daniele Mannini.
It's a long way from the Northern Counties Eastern League to have a career like that.
Mark Smith said that he was out walking his dog when he met another dog walker.
I told him I was the chairman of Beverley Town and he should get down to pre-season training.
He had over 200 appearances under his belt.
Mannini hasn't played since moving to East Yorkshire to work as a sales executive for a food ingredient supplier.
He's been away from the game for a while but he's still holding his own with his new team-mates.
"Dani's training and dedication have been first class and I can't speak highly enough of his attitude," Dave said.
Everyone at the club can be inspired by him. It's not often that you get someone who has played a lot of games in a single season.
The new league season begins with a game between Athersley and Beverley.
