Apparently, openly bigoted, anti-science, Trump cheerleading, and overall anti-democratic rhetoric is not welcome on prime time. It was announced late Thursday that One America News is going away. The last major TV carrier said that negotiations were going on as usual.
OAN will be removed from the Fios TV slate on July 31. The contract with OAN is about to end.
The negotiations were focused on economics but OAN didn't agree to fair terms. The Fios TV platform offers a wide and diverse choice of programming options, including a la carte options, that strive to meet our millions of customers' various content needs.
Reports show that the split on OAN's side has not been well received. One of the largest telecom companies wastargeting OAN and other right-wing organizations according to Media Matters. After these right-wing attacks, the "Guide to Misinformation" that was on the site was removed.
Earlier this year, DirecTV announced they were also dropping the channel, but that came after years of wrangling and OAN even sued the network to keep itself available, and the telecom company was forced to continue airing One America News. Reports last year showed that One America News was almost entirely funded by AT&T.
Other providers didn't pick up OAN. After they were dropped by DirectTV, the news site NextTV reported that OAN had less than 5 million remaining paying TV subscribers and was barely making any money.
Other right-wing figures have come to OAN's defense. In March, six Republican state attorney generals wrote to DirecTV to try and get them to keep Trump on television. We will have to wait and see if the Texas AG and his team will try to do the same thing to the company.
The company gained prominence during the time of former President Donald Trump. The network was losing talent quickly according to the Daily Beast. There are a few small digital platforms where the network can be found. An unnamed source told The Daily Beast that OAN is going to focus on social media. Newsmax continues to be on-air with the company.
