A bill to codify same-sex marriage into federal law was called a "stupid waste of time" by a Republican senator.

According to the news outlet, Baldwin heard the comments as he was listening to them.

Baldwin told CNN that she confronted Rubio about what he said and that she would have liked to watch the exchange on the elevator.

The Supreme Court decision eroded a constitutional right to privacy, according to Baldwin. He disagrees with the fact that a lot of cases have been decided on the basis of a constitutional right to privacy. I said we would be talking some more.

According to CNN, the senator wouldn't say if she was insulted by the remark or not.

Baldwin's representatives didn't reply to a request for comment on Friday.

A spokesman for Rubio refused to comment when contacted on Friday and instead pointed to comments he made on Wednesday.

The bill to protect same-sex marriage at the federal level was called a "waste of our time on a non- issue" by the senator.

The push to codify same-sex marriage into federal law was spurred by the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the Wade ruling.

The Respect for Marriage Act was passed by the House this week.

There were 47 Republicans who voted in favor of the bill. The fate of the bill is uncertain in the Senate, but Democratic senators are still optimistic that they can get 10 GOP senators to vote for the bill.
