The Moores family held a majority stake in the club for more than 50 years.

During his time at the club, he oversaw the managerial appointments of Roy Evans, Gerard Houllier and Rafael Benitez, as well as the entry into the newly founded premier league.

Moores sold his controlling interest in the company to Tom and George in 2007.

It was a move which quickly turned sour with the Americans being forced out in a bitter board battle after fans objected to the sale of the team to New England Sports Ventures.

In December of last year, Moores returned to the club for the first time in 10 years.

The thoughts of everyone at the club are with the family and friends of David.

Kenny Dalglish and his wife Marina are very sad by the death of David Moores.

When he was appointed chairman he did a lot to help the club.

We send our sympathies to his family. He will be missed by everyone. It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye.
