State media reported that the Chinese president called the U.S. president to wish him a quick recovery.

The White House said Biden had a positive test for Covid-19. CNBC asked the U.S. embassy in Beijing if it had anything to say about the report.

The Xinhua news agency described the contact with Biden.

According to a CNBC translation of the Chinese state media report, the president expressed his sympathies. The report didn't say if the leaders communicated on other topics.

At a news conference on Wednesday, Biden told reporters that he would speak with China's president within 10 days, but he didn't give any reason or topics for the call.

The two leaders talked about the invasion of Ukraine. China doesn't want to be called an invasion.

The English language version of the state media report states that a message was sent to Biden.
