Astros close out double-header sweep of Yankees (0:35)

The Astros won the game on a double play. There is a time and a place for this.

11:47 PM ET

The Astros opened the second half of the season by sweeping the Yankees in a day and night game.

The Astros completed their sweep of the series with a win in Game 2.

The Astros won the season series against the Yankees by a score of 5-2. They finished the season with a.151 batting average against the Astros, their lowest single-season batting average against an opponent all time.

A question equating this season's results against the Astros to the Yankees' struggles against them in the playoffs in the past was a cause for concern for the Yankees manager.

He said he understood it was a big story. We're in the season. Unless it's October, it won't matter. We will show up if we return in October. We are expecting to win. We believe we're good. They're great. Don't state this in a way that makes it sound like it's true.

The Yankees have a winning percentage Houston is over 50.

"You want to get off to a good start, and I think everyone came in ready to play." This is what we expect from this ball club, and hopefully we can continue that for the second half.

In the opener, J.J. Matijevic's pinch-hit single with two outs in the ninth gave the Astros a 3-2 victory.

"This is huge for us to start out 2-0, to take our lead back to double digits, that's what we need to do to win the division," Baker said.

With one out in the ninth in Game 2, Judge hit his 34th home run of the season to cut the lead to five.

In the first game, the pitcher who took over was greeted with a single by the player. The game was tied at 7 before Matt Carpenter grounded into a double play to end it.

He hit his 27th home run of the season in the first to give the Astros an early lead. The Astros went back-to-back when Bregman hit the ball off Germn.

Baker said the guy hasn't swung a bat against live pitchers and hits it out on his first at-bat. Bregman is getting hotter.

There were runners on second and third with two outs in the second when Alvarez doubled off the wall in left center to score two more and make it a four run game. Bregman's single sent Alvarez home and made it a five point game.

Judge walked with one out in the third as the Yankees cut the lead to three.

The postponed series was supposed to be made up by the two games coming out of the All-Star break. The Astros won the first game of the series.

"It's exciting to see us play each other," New York's Giancarlo Stanton said. We need to stay ahead of them for the home field advantage.

Germn, who missed the first half of the season with a shoulder injury, gave up six hits and five runs in his season debut.

In the first game of the series, Bregman led off the ninth with a single. Aledmys Daz had a double. The pinch-hitter was walked to load the bases after Yuli Gurriel failed to hit the ball.

After striking out McCormick, King looked like he might be able to escape the jam, but Matijevic drove in Bregman with a single.

"That was an exciting win for us and the fans and for J.J." Baker said. I was pleased for J.J.

The Astros went into the ninth with a 2-0 lead. Isiah Kiner-Falefa's grounder that rolled past Jeremy Pea for the tying hit was the result of an error by Jeremy Pea.

The Yankees were just 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position after DJ LeMahieu hit a home run.

Jordan Montgomery had a season high in strikeouts in his last outing.

In his first start against the Yankees since throwing a combined no-hitter in New York on June 25th, Javier gave up two hits and a run. The gem was finished by Ryan Pressly.

The domed Minute Maid Park has only had three games.
